Marriage Is Ordain of God

It is very challenging to stand up for traditional marriage and defend the term at this moment.  Today, the meaning is very different than many years ago.  Due to a court ruling, same-sex marriage is now accepted in many places.  Many people do not view marriage as only between man and woman, but also between two men and two women. Back in ancient times, marriage was ordained of God for the purpose of procreation and in our world today whether here in America or in other countries abroad, this definition has grown to include those of the same sex gender, for the benefit of the individual’s parties involved. Marriage is ordained of God is for the upbringing of children where mother and father work together to care for and help their children learn and grow. Fathers and mothers teach the roles of each person so that each family members can help create a strong family unit.  Marriage of man and man or woman and woman is instituted by man and therefore will be different for them.

The outcome of the June 26, 2015 historic ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, it was declared that same-sex marriage is now the law of the land. There were many that rejoiced over this news and there were many too that were saddened by it.  I believe that “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:27–28). “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). The union between a woman and a man was a directive from God and is an important part of the plan for all His children then and now.

While some views of the family may change in the world, in our homes we will continue to teach our children that strong families consist of a married couple of the opposite gender, a man who is the father and a woman who the mother, to nurture, strengthen, teach, and lead by example the importance of the marriage covenants, vows, and promises made in the temple of God. Together we raise our children in the privacy of our home the way God intended and we will be accountable for all our actions.

Our church leaders counseled us that we should treat same-sex marriage with respect and kindness and to love one another even when we don’t agree. Always in my heart is sincere love and understanding for others and I have complete respect for everyone around me.  I believe in all of God’s commandments and the most sacred one to me is that marriage is between man and woman. I will strive to do my best to live each day the truth of the gospel knowledge that comes from study and by faith. I will love my fellow man no matter what. We all belong to the human family and each is as important as the others. And in the end our agency and choices have consequences. Each of us will discover for ourselves whether it be good or bad. May we always pray for God’s love in our hearts towards all our brothers and sisters so that we may continue to live in peace and harmony and be full of charity in heart and mind.
